Reckitt (previously called Reckitt Benckiser or RB) is a British multinational consumer goods
company headquartered in Slough, England. We are a producer of health, hygiene, and
nutrition products with world leading brands. The brands in Uganda include Dettol Soap,
Dettol Antiseptic liquid, Harpic, Jik Mortein Doom, Durex, Gaviscon, and Strepsils. In
Uganda, our products are distributed through authorized partners, Keshwala, Harleys and
Dembe Trading Enterprises Limited. This partnership ensures that Reckitt’s range of health
and hygiene products, are accessible to Ugandan consumers.
Economic Contribution to Uganda
Reckitt has been present Uganda for over 27 years, with business size of approximately
USD 27m. Our investments in sales and distribution through business and affiliates have
generated employment for over 200 people, and revenue of UGX31 billion in VAT annually to
the Government of Uganda. Reckitt Uganda also works with the Ministry of health through
the National Medical Stores, to supply an exclusively formulated JIK bleach to hospitals
around Uganda. Through our Ugandan business, Reckitt meets domestic demand while
serving the broader East Africa region. Our mission is to offer innovative and affordable
health and hygiene solutions that protect against diseases and enhance the quality of life for
all Ugandans.
Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives
We are very proud of our social impact initiatives in promoting hygiene and sanitation in the
country, and Reckitt has demonstrated a commitment to improving public health in Uganda
through various initiatives over the past 5 years.
Dettol School Hygiene Program
Uganda faces challenges related to poor hygiene and sanitation practices, especially in rural
communities where access to clean water and hygiene facilities is often limited. The impact
of inadequate hygiene practices includes a higher prevalence of communicable diseases,
which affects school pupils’ health, school attendance, and overall academic
performanceDettol School Hygiene Program which is done in partnership with Chil Group, a
health and hygiene innovator. This program aims to address these challenges by promoting
hygiene education among rural primary school students in Uganda, targeting over 450,000
children across 1500 schools in its initial phase.
Hygiene Promotion
In collaboration with UNAIDS and Dembe Group, Reckitt distributed hygiene packs to
communities living with HIV in Uganda. This effort aimed to reduce exposure to infections by
providing essential hygiene products, including Dettol soap and Jik surface cleaner.
Global Partnerships and Local Impact

E-commerce Collaboration
Reckitt partnered with Jumia, a leading e-commerce platform, to enhance consumer access
to health and hygiene products in Africa, including Uganda. This collaboration simplifies the
procurement process for consumers, ensuring the availability of essential products.
Hygiene Research
The establishment of the Reckitt Hygiene Forum at the London School of Hygiene &
Tropical Medicine aims to innovate solutions that improve global health through research
and teaching. Insights from this forum can inform and enhance hygiene practices in
countries like Uganda.
